📚☕️Excited to sit down with author Kelly Catlin to talk about her powerful book, Kurt Cobain: Forever in Bloom.
Drawing on years of conversations with Kurt Cobain’s friends, fellow musicians, Nirvana collaborators, managers, and other industry insiders, Kelly’s book looks beyond the headlines and familiar narratives to explore the person behind the legend.

I talk with Kelly about what inspired her to tell Cobain’s story, the first hand accounts that shaped the book, criticism and the importance of opening honest conversations around mental health and suicide.

Few people experienced the rise of the Seattle music scene from as many angles as Jan Gregor. A musician, booking agent, tour manager, stagehand, pyrotech, billposter, follow-spot operator, caterer and film maker, Gregor spent 15 years immersed in the Pacific Northwest’s thriving rock community, playing in bands including Variant Cause, Next Exit, Sweet Madness and Koo Dot Tah.
In this interview, Gregor shares the remarkable Nirvana booking story before they became global icons, along with personal memories of Chris Cornell, Matt Cameron, Eddie Vedder, and Alice in Chains during the formative years of the Seattle explosion. He also reflects on the emergence of grunge, the pivotal role of Sub Pop, and what it was really like to witness one of the most influential musical movements in history from the inside.
Jan Gregor also discusses the latest chapter in his musical journey with the new Variant Cause album a continuation rather than a reunion. Originally formed in Seattle in 1985, Variant Cause built a reputation for its distinctive sound, sharing stages with artists including The Blasters, Hunter/Ronson, X, Nico, The Godfathers and Iggy Pop before the changing music landscape brought the band to an end. He set himself the challenge of writing songs that could have been hits in another generation - songs, as he puts it: “for other bands to cover, songs for the world.”

BEHOLD brings together an impressive group of guest performers, including Jeff Schroeder of The Smashing Pumpkins, Gym Nicholson (Undercover), Eric Campuzano (Lassie Foundation, Prayer Chain), executive producer Ken Johnston, and a choir of middle-school and high-school students on “May It Be So.” Mixed and mastered by Christopher Colbert (Leon Bridges, Sufjan Stevens, Mazzy Star) at National Freedom Studio, with Grammy-winning engineer Julian Kindred mixing the track “Disappear” at Nonsuch Studio in London, the album represents both a reflection on Taylor’s remarkable musical journey and an exciting new chapter. "Fit For Work was a concept a long time before it was a song. As a band, and as a writer, we [I] have always regarded the call and response strategy as biblical. The idea of having a conversation during the delivery of art leads to this absurd metaphysical tangent of acknowledging your art is art whilst performing it; similar to when artists use the line “I wrote this song for you because…” what they are doing, when you think about it, is taking away the idea that what they’re creating exists in itself, and is, in fact, an entity that exists in a wholly real world.’’

What side you standing on?!

◽️Julian Casablancas is the musician which current and future musicologist, music historians and protest music fans will write about. After a few decades have passed or 100 years, his musical influence and political ideas will be evaluated in the same seriousness as those of Joe Hill, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan or Kurt Cobain.
